Cultural Attractions
The presence of two four-year institutions of higher education - Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College - generates an ongoing array of cultural opportunities in the region throughout the school year.
Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, Farmville, is open year-round with changing exhibits and new programs and presentations.
The Hampden-Sydney Music Festival is a yearly event that celebrates Chamber Music at its best.
Hampden-Sydney College's Esther Thomas Atkinson Museum was founded in 1968 for the purpose of collecting and preserving the rich history of Hampden-Sydney College; one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States, founded in 1775.
The Waterworks Players are a local community theater group located in Farmville.
The j Fergeson Gallery features fine arts and crafts. Located in downtown Farmville, the gallery also hosts single-artist exhibits.
Just south of Farmville is the Prince Edward County Cannery where local residents come to can vegetables and process meats. For those city-folk, and even country-folk, that have never canned vegetables or processed meat before, this is an interesting place to visit. Call ahead to confirm days and hours of operation.
The Mad Hatter - not just a light fare restaurant and coffee shop, but a music and art venue, where Community fellowship is the goal. Visit the art gallery, have a cup of coffee, and listen to some music.
